The decision of whether to
include a Box.net review was
very similar to the decision I faced when deciding whether to
include an
X-Drive Review. Both of the services lean more toward the
file-sharing market than true remote backup, so while Box may
not be the killer app for your remote backup needs you may
consider it an option if you are looking for a file sharing
application.
One of my favorite features with any
remote backup application is the ability to set it and forget it
- ie, continuous, automatic backup, which Box.net does not
offer. I was pleasantly surprised with the security features
which also seem important if your file sharing sensitive
information.
Another limitation of Box is that
even the super-duper Pro Package (which costs $10/month which
isn't bad) only offers 15GB of storage space. From what I could
find there is absolutely no way to get 30GB of storage space
without buying two subscriptions and backing your data up
separately - not an ideal solution obviously.
In conclusion Box.net might be the
perfect solution for you if you are considering file sharing
options, but it probably won't be sufficient as a remote backup
option if you plan to backup more than 15GB worth of data.
