Truth be told it took us a while to
decide whether to consider
X-Drive a backup solution - it is more like an internet hard
drive. For $10/month you can get 5GB of secure backup space that
acts just like a local hard drive would with the advantage that
if your house burns down you're not SOL.
There is one feature of X-Drive that
I really like - their "skip download" feature. Basically if you
are on a site and would like to store a picture or file on
X-Drive you can just right-click on the file and send it to
X-Drive without having to download it locally.
The problem with X-Drive, from a
backup perspective, is that it's not something where you can
just "set it and forget it." In order to back your stuff up you
would need to manually go backup anything important to you. Most
of the other services we review have a scheduler that will
automatically backup your critical files at predefined
intervals.
Our other problem with X-Drive is
that it's kind of expensive for 5GB of data - most people would
be better off using the
GmailFS, a hack that essentially allows you to use Gmail as
an internet hard drive (for free).
